The Spinto Band would like to have you believe that their long awaited follow-up to 2005’s Nice and Nicely Done will be their seventh, or maybe eighth, studio album. The trouble is, they’re counting all their underground, mp3 basement tapes and a 1998 record they threw together under the name Free Beer.
Still, give credit where credit is due. When Bar/None released Nice and Nicely Done as the Spinto Band’s officially official debut, the Delaware sextet was already a well oiled machine, churning out textbook indie-pop from the pages of the masters: a little Pavement here, a little Flaming Lips there, and a dash of Of Montreal for good measure. The band’s standout single, “Oh Mandy,” was one of the better tracks of 2005, and in 2006, it got a swell video to match. It’s 2008 now, however, and the Spintos finally have that upteenth album of theirs set for release this year.
